Our Story

Bruce R.  Barbour, known industry wide as "BRB," has been active in book publishing for over forty-five years. He has held executive positions at several publishing houses including Fleming H Revell Company (family owned-business founded in 1870 and sold in 1979), Barbour and Company (co-founded and Exec VP 1983-1986), Thomas Nelson (VP, Publisher, 1986-1993), and Random House (VP, Publisher 1994-1996). In 1997, BRB founded Literary Management Group, a full service literary agency and publishing consulting firm that has represented best-selling authors and properties including Zig Ziglar and The Beginner's Bible, consulted with publishing houses including Zondervan, Thomas Nelson, Hachette and others as well as packaged books for speakers, associations and corporations.

Professional Experience

"BRB" is the fourth generation of a publishing family that has served authors for over 150 years.
In 1870, his great-grand uncles, Fleming H. Revell and Dwight L. Moody, started publishing Christian books. Following in the footsteps of his great-grand uncles, grandfather, and father, BRB joined the Fleming H. Revell Company in 1975 after graduating with honors from Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA.

Trained as an editor, BRB has held executive positions in sales, marketing, operations and management. 

BRB's publishing career includes:


  • 1975-1984  Fleming H. Revell Company. Responsibilities included; Editor, Acquisitions Editor, Special Projects Manager, Sales Manager and VP, Sales & Marketing
  • 1984-1986  Barbour and Company. As co-founder of this promotional book publishing house with his uncle, Hugh Barbour, BRB served as Executive VP supervising sales, marketing, product development and distribution
  • 1986-1993  Thomas Nelson Publishers. BRB joined as VP, Marketing and served as VP Publisher for several years.
  • 1994-1996  Random House. Working with then Chairman and CEO, Alberto Vitale, BRB started Moorings, an imprint dedicated to publishing Christian books, and served as VP, Publisher.
  • 1996 to present. Literary Management Group. Feeling that the Christian publishing industry and authors could benefit from a full-service intellectual property firm that specialized in Author Coaching, Self-Publishing, Consulting and Literary Representation, BRB  founded Literary Management Group. For over twenty-five years, BRB has been aiding and assisting authors, writers and publishers.
